Chapter 48 – Buy some time for me for a while
With a deafening scream, something was coming down from the sky.
When I hurriedly looked up at the sky, I saw a jet-black dragon with its wings spread wide.
“A, a Wyvern …?”
“No, isn’t it too big for that…….?”
The people in the square also looked up at the sky and had anxious expressions on their faces.
Even so, they remained calm because there were many knights here, so they didn’t think it would be that dangerous if a monster appeared.
“Layla… that is…” (Ark)
“U, unn… not a Wyvern.” (Layla)
The presence of the monster we were feeling was incomparable to the wyvern.
It was probably on par with Beffy and the others.
As it approached the ground, the surrounding area became noisier and noisier.
“Wa, wait … wh, what in the world is that size…?”
“I, isn’t this terribly bad!?”
The monster blocked out the vast square and shaded it.
It was so huge that it almost threw off my sense of perspective.
“Th, that’s… T, th, The Bahamut!?”
Bahamut, a mythical monster.
What appeared in the square during the King’s speech was a jet-black evil dragon with a total length of 200 meters.
The people screamed in unison as if a dam had been broken and fled at once.
It turned into total chaos, they were pushing and pressing against each other.
“A, all personnel get ready! Let’s fight off that monsters!”
“H, How the hell do we fight off such a monster!?”
“I want to know as well! But that’s our role! Show your knight’s pride!”
The knights prepared themselves to die and forming up a formation to intercept the approaching giant dragon.
“Wh, wha… It’s going to crash into the ground…”
“If such a huge thing were to crash into us like this, we will be……”
But I don’t think I can deal with those who are just stunned by the meteorite-like giants.
But I doubt they could cope with such a huge body falling like a meteorite, as they were just stunned.
“Layla, let’s go.” (Ark)
If we didn’t do anything, it would only cause enormous damage.
We nodded to each other and kicked off the ground and jumped up into the sky.
A huge body was approaching with tremendous momentum.
The force was comparable to Beffy and the others’, no, probably more.
“We will block it!” (Ark)
Layla and I together assembled a yellow magic.
“”Metal Shield!!”” (Ark, Layla)
What appeared was a huge metal shield that was over a hundred meters wide and ten meters thick.
Without slowing down, Bahamut crashed into it.
The explosion roared, Layla and I were blown away by the tremendous impact.
As we knocked to the ground, a large crack appeared on the pavement.
“Layla-san!? Ark-san!” (Celes)
I felt like I heard Celes-san’s scream.
But we were safe.
I had not been trained so softly, enough to be injured being hit by something like this.
Looking up, I saw that Bahamut had also been damaged in the crash and was hovering in midair.
It might have suffered a concussion from the head-on collision.
“Divine Space Slash” (Ark)
I quickly flew into the sky and unleashed a series of slashes.
The slashes hit the Bahamut one after another, but they were not significantly causing damage thanks to its hard scales.
I suddenly noticed.
There was a larger wound on Bahamut’s abdomen than the one I had just inflicted.
From the looks of it, it looked like a cut.
And it was still fresh.
Is it a wound caused by another monster?
But what kind of monster can give Bahamut a wound like that?
“Meteor Strike!” (Layla)
While I was thinking about it, the meteorite that Layla had created with her magic had collided with Bahamut’s abdomen.
“It’s not very effective!” (Layla)
It was a magic of such power that it inflicted a fatal wound on Atlas, but it only made Bahamut growled in pain at best.
…… Its scales may be harder than Levy’s.
It was then that I felt a strong chill run down my spine.
Intuitively I jump away.
A ray of light spat out from Bahamut’s mouth brushed past my side.
A moment later, I heard a tremendous explosion from behind me.
When I looked back, I saw that part of the castle’s outer wall had completely disappeared.
“It was close …” (Ark)
It was a bad news if I had taken a direct hit from that,
But the crisis hadn’t been over yet.
I felt it again.
Bahamut was about to launch its next attack.
Moreover, since my position had changed from before, its mouth was pointing toward the ground.
Just as it was about to be released, a magic burst under its chin, and Bahamut’s ray disappeared into the sky.
“Layla, you saved me! We need to direct its attacks upwards as much as possible!” (Ark)
We then flew above Bahamut’s head.
We shot slashes and magic, while avoiding its rays, we ascended into the sky in a spiral with the chasing Bahamut.
With this, it will prevent any damage to the ground…
“How are we going to beat this creature?” (Ark)
The attacks so far were not very effective.
I still could afford it, but I didn’t want to keep fighting endlessly.
“I’ve got a good idea! Ark, buy some time for me for a while!” (Layla)
“Eh? Wait, Layla!?” (Ark)
Layla suddenly left.
For a moment, Bahamut seemed to be unsure of which to prioritize, but probably its hate for me won out, and it chased after me.
