Arc 1
Chapter 2 – The Heavenly Illustrator (Mama) and The VTuber (Daughter)
Iori should have been going home as usual, but for some reason, his classmate’s neighbor was waiting for him, and just as he was bracing himself for another warning, he was surprised to hear an unexpected word from her.
He had no idea that his identity had been revealed.
It was not by a family member, but by a neighbor, of all people.
“Wait a minute. What are you talking about? What do you mean by “Kankitsu”?”
Iori had no choice but to cover it up for the moment. He decided to keep a cool head and low profile.
“…… Well, that’s okay. Let’s get down to the lounge downstairs.”
“Ah, wait!”
Asumi, acting as if she already had the evidence, peremptorily got into the elevator.
Iori had no choice but to go along with her.
“Now, there are hardly any visitors at this hour, so you don’t have to hide it, Kankitsu-sensei.”
“No, that’s why…….”
When they arrived at the lounge, they both sat down at a table set.
This lounge was a rest area with vending machines and three table sets. Certainly, no one seemed to come here.
However, Iori would not reveal himself so easily.
Somehow, he tried to persist, but the next moment he gave up without a second thought.
“I’ll give you this.”
“What is this…………? Hey, isn’t this…….”
“Yes, that’s what it is.”
Asumi handed him a folded piece of paper.
He read the first line to check the contents and realized that all his attempts to cover were for naught.
“You’ve done it, PROGRESS.”
“We’ll have more to talk about that later.”
Iori held in his hand a document from a major VTuber agency, PROGRESS.
The address on the paper was addressed to Tokisaka Iori, and the name of the CEO of PROGRESS was written as the sender.
It was a New Year’s greeting card sent by the CEO, and if you read it, you would instantly know that the illustrator, Kankitsu, is Tokisaka Iori.
In other words, the greeting card revealed the identity of Kankitsu to Asumi. This was the worst possible situation.
Then Iori realized another fact.
“My mama, eh, Minase, are you by any chance Hyouka?”
“Yes, exactly. That’s right. I, Minase Asumi, am the person behind the known VTuber named Kanadome Hyouka.”
“You’re kidding, right……”
“I’m not. This is my channel’s administrator dashboard.”
Asumi smiled and proudly revealed her true identity.
This is the proof, she said, easily presenting information that only Hyouka could see.
He thought she was a different person from Hyouka, with a different personality and everything, but he didn’t have time to worry about that.
And so Iori finally was really, literally, at wits’ end.
“For now, I’ll tell you how it happened.”
“Please do.”
“Today, I came home from school and opened up the package I received from the agency. The contents were related to the upcoming Hyouka merchandise. Among them was that greeting card.”
“So that’s what happened.”
Apparently, the greeting card was mixed in with the samples of merchandise that they had talked about after the stream with Hyouka.
She said she was going to open it up today, so it was likely that Asumi, who had gone home before Iori, found it out――and now came to this point.
“It was probably mixed in by mistake when it was sent to me and Tokisaka-san. Our rooms are next door to each other, so there must have been some kind of mistake.”
“The person who is in charge of sending the package is probably being sentenced to the death penalty.”
“If the agency found out about this, they would be in a panic. That’s because the information was leaked.”
In contrast to Iori, who was in a panic with worries in her head, Asumi was calm and collected.
She was not as cold as she had been in the morning, nor as fidgety as she had been earlier.
She looked a little happy, if anything.
“You look happy.”
“I’m sorry. It’s just that I was so excited to be able to meet you, Kankitsu-sensei.”
“Well, you’re happy to meet your favorite illustrator, eh. But it’s complicated for me to meet in this way.”
“Yes, I was surprised when I found it out, but I was also a little relieved.”
“Heeeh.”
“Now I don’t have to keep my distance from Tokisaka-san.”
“Ah, that reminds me. Why are you so cold to me? Although you’re called a saintess at school.”
“I, I’m sorry about that. It’s because I live alone, so I have to be careful with my neighbors. Also, I’m afraid of being exposed…….”
“No wonder. Minase is often swarmed by boys at school.”
“That’s all the reason. I’m very sorry.”
Asumi lowered her head.
She also felt apologetic about what she had done.
In the meantime, although the voice could be played with by voice-changing, there must be a concern that she might be exposed.
The risks and consequences that Asumi would suffer from being exposed would be different from that of Iori. She absolutely could not afford to be exposed.
Furthermore, being a high school girl living alone must be filled with many scary things.
It was not unusual for her to be courted at school, and she couldn’t carelessly allow herself to be courted by a male classmate who lives next door.
Iori would have done the same thing if he were in the same position.
Iori felt sorry for her, thinking that it must be hard to be a beautiful girl.
“Well, what are we going to do now? I’ll report it to the agency tomorrow, but I don’t know how we’re going to interact from now on. It’s a little awkward, isn’t it?”
“You’ve got a point. I am also a little confused……., but anyway, shall we have the meeting we were planning to have on Saturday right now?”
“You’re very adaptable, aren’t you?”
“I’m used to trouble.”
“The words of someone who moderates events and does live streaming are very persuasive.”
Asumi broadcasted live streaming on a daily basis, and was involved in facilitating and managing various PROGRESS official projects, events, and competitions.
She had the dignity of being in a place where she had to respond to whatever happened to prevent a broadcast accident.
“How it sounds?”
“…….Let’s do. I don’t think I’ll be able to work properly if I don’t do it now.”
The meeting was scheduled at a mutually convenient time, so it would be fine if they could do it whenever they had the time.
If that were the case, it would be more efficient to do it now.
Iori agreed with Asumi’s suggestion.
“I understand. Where shall we go?”
“Le’s go to my room. I’m afraid to talk here forever even though no one is coming.”
He thought it would be strange to talk on the phone with a neighbor, and as soon as he suggested this, her expression tightened.
“How could you invite me to your room after I revealed why I had kept my distance?”
“Ah, no…… I’m sorry.”
By the time he realized that he had done so, it was too late.
Asumi’s eyes narrowed and she spoke in an accusatory tone.
Given her distancing herself from men, she must have been suspicious and wary.
Iori regretted that he had not thought of this.
“Well, it is fine. I don’t think you will do anything strange in your position anyway, Tokisaka-san, and also, I have trust in you.”
“My bad, I’ll be careful next time.”
He had never approached her as the other boys had, and as Kankitsu, he had done many collaborations with her.
Perhaps because she knew his personality to a certain extent, Asumi was willing to forgive him.
“And you seem to be interested in minors, right.”
“Shut up!”
Iori was ridiculed by bringing up the subject of last night’s collaboration stream, and she headed for his room with Asumi in tow.
