Chapter 1 – I got exposed to the saintess

“It’s already this hour. Oh no, I have to take out the trash!”

Iori, who had been working on his illustrations since this morning, looked at his watch and saw that it was almost time for him to go to school.

Stopping his work, Iori hurriedly began to get ready for school.

Even as a student, he often drew in the morning, not only before dinner or bedtime.

His diligence and the amount of work he put in were the factors that made Iori a professional illustrator.

Iori’s day begins with a bit of sleepiness and a rush.

“So cold……”

Outside his room. When he stepped out into the corridor of the apartment, he couldn’t help but feel his skin tingling all over from the icy cold air.

The first week of January――From the first day after the winter break, he started to hate going to school.

But that didn’t mean Iori could take a day off, so he gave up and grabbed a trash bag.

The apartment building in which he lived had a garbage disposal on each floor. The garbage disposal on the floor where Iori’s house was located was at the end of the corridor.

Shivering with biting coldness, Iori started walking toward the garbage disposal.

But then he heard a clear voice behind him, and his footsteps were halted after only one step.

“Good morning, Tokisaka-san.”

He turned toward the owner of the voice and saw a girl with shoulder-length silver hair swinging.

She was Minase Asumi, who lived next door.

At school, she was called Saintess, and she was also his neighbor and classmate.

She had a very beautiful face, as her nickname “Saintess” implied. With her cool, clear, turquoise-colored pupils, beautifully straight nose, and glossy, shapely, light-pink lips, she looked as if she had just stepped out of a fairy tale world.

Her slender arms and legs were as white as porcelain, and almost translucent unlike that of Iori’s. She was undeniably the picture of a beautiful girl.

In addition to her good looks, she was also well-behaved and had excellent grades. She was basically kind and humble, and did not discriminate against anyone.

It was no wonder that she was called “Saintess”, as she was the ultimate in neatness and purity.

Naturally, she was very popular at school, and people often gathered around her.

However, Iori did not belong to them. It is not that he was not interested in her, he just did not have the desire to be close to her.

As a result, they had a very casual relationship, with only a cursory nod of the head when they passed each other.

So, it was quite unusual for her to come all the way out to greet him.

“Umm, I thought we were supposed to start using designated trash bags today?”

“Ah…….”

“You know how strict this place is, don’t you? You will soon get complaints from the school, and it will be a nuisance to me, so please do it properly.”

It seemed that the reason she approached him was to present her complaint to Iori.

She didn’t seem angry, but her tone was somewhat cold.

Asumi was revered as a saintess at school, but she was actually a little cold toward Iori.

He was not interested in her, but he was curious in this regard.

It was likely that he’d never have the chance to find out the truth about her.

“You’re right. But I don’t have the designated one……. Sorry, can I maybe borrow one or so?”

“Sigh…… I don’t have a choice. Please wait a moment.”

Iori had completely forgotten that the garbage disposal system had changed this year. He was not going to be able to throw out the garbage, so he asked Asumi for help.

She then returned to her room in exasperation. She might be cold, but she was still kind at heart, as rumor had it.

“Sorry, but this is all I have left. Please go to a convenience store and buy some on your way home today.”

“Thank you. Sorry to bother you.”

“Bye then.”

After returning from her room, Asumi handed Iori a trash bag and walked away.

She was really unfriendly and curt. The other side may see Iori that way, too.

What in the world had I done to her, anyway?

Iori, having no idea, tilted his head and thanked her for letting him use the trash bag.

“Hey, listen up! Suu-sama has been exposed and her boyfriend has as well!”

Iori was startled to hear such a voice as soon as he arrived at the classroom.

As an illustrator who hide his true identity, this topic was all too familiar and frightening to him.

The word “exposed” frightened Iori, but the person who had apparently been exposed was a celebrity and a big topic of conversation among some of his classmates.

He shifted his gaze from them and glanced at the edge of the classroom to see Asumi. She was not paying attention to that topic.

It was as if she had severed all ties with the world. Is this what it means to live in a different world?

“It’s serious, isn’t it? Suu-sama, she even went to his house.”

“I’m shocked, Is he her boyfriend.”

(Doxxed, huh? Isn’t that a terrible situation? Moreover, Suu-sama, of all people.)

Iori secretly listened as he took his seat.

Suu-sama was a popular VTuber gamer, and Iori had a connection with the artist in charge of her character design.

Doxxing was a term for the act of revealing someone’s personal information online, and was probably one of the things that celebrities on social networking sites, such as Iori, were particularly afraid of.

It was obvious that stalkers and antis would take advantage of this. It was a matter that should be avoided as a top priority.

(Well, it’s a good thing that Suu-sama is an indie, because if she is of a major VAgency, it’d be a huge scandal. So would our Hyouka……..)

For those who were in the idol industry, a love affair would be a huge scandal.

If that were to happen, there would surely be hell to pay. It was a horrible situation.

(Well, I don’t think it will affect me if I’m exposed. Though I’m afraid it’ll affect Hyouka.)

If we took into account that Iori was just an ordinary illustrator except for his appearances on other people’s streaming, the exposure of his personal identity and that of his girlfriend would be only a topic of conversation for a moment or two.

However, it was also true that there were fans who see his relationship with Hyouka as that of a man and a woman rather than that of a parent and daughter.

If you took that into account, if Iori were to have a girlfriend and it were to be exposed, it might cause a bit of a stir.

If that happened, it would cause trouble for her.

Therefore, he had to be extra careful.

At the same time, Iori was also confident that he would be fine since he had never had a girlfriend in the first place.

After school, it was getting dark outside.

Iori was walking back to his apartment, his steps lightened from the heavy ones he had taken in the morning.

The reason for his light steps was that the mini illustration book he had announced last night was selling well. He got a call from the person in charge just a few minutes ago.

He was so buoyant that he even went out of his way to climb the stairs, which he usually avoided, now calling it a light exercise.

He was enjoying himself, thinking about what to have for dinner and other such unimportant things, but when he reached the top of the stairs and turned his head in the direction of his room, his feet and thoughts stopped.

After a few seconds of staring and refocusing on his room, he found the Saintess, a resident of another world, standing alone in front of his room.

Unlike this morning, she looked somewhat restless and fidgety.

“Do you have some business with me?”

He spoke to her in a voice that lacked any trace of sociability.

He was sure she would probably just give him a warning like she did this morning.

“You are my “Mama”, aren’t you, Tokisaka-san?”

He had assumed that it would be something unimportant, but when Asumi suddenly told him so, all Iori could reply was, “Huh?”

When he came home, he was suddenly told by her normally distant classmate, “You’re my mama, aren’t you?” It would be unreasonable to say that he was not bewildered by being told so.

“That was a little too confusing, right? I’ll change it then, but Tokisaka-san’s true identity is that of a professional illustrator, Kankitsu-sensei, right?”

When he was puzzled because he could not find the words to reply, she sensed this and reiterated it with a wry smile.

Iori finally understood his situation.

I, have been exposed――haven’t I?
