Chapter 5 – The Saintess’ Favorite and See You Tomorrow
“Thank you for the food. It was very delicious.”
“Happy to serve. It’s my pleasure to hear you say so.”
After finishing the meal, Asumi seemed very satisfied and praised Iori’s homemade cooking from beginning to end.
Since she had been eating only rice balls and other light meals recently, perhaps that was why she was so impressed with his cooking.
Whatever the reason, he was happy to have served her.
“Come to think of it, is your family in the restaurant business? I heard from your stream that both of your parents are company employees.”
“My parents are just normal people. It’s just that my parents aren’t usually home, so my grandparents took care of me until I was in high school.”
Both Iori’s parents worked and were often away from home, so he was left in the care of his grandparents. His grandparents owned a restaurant, which was how he acquired his cooking skills.
However, he could only cook to a certain extent, and not at a professional level.
He couldn’t improve to that level while seriously aspiring to be an illustrator.
“I see, that your parents are busy.”
“I can’t say that they are busy, or that they are never home. Well, I haven’t seen them since I entered high school.”
“……same as mine, yes.”
“Hmm? Did you say something?”
“It’s nothing.”
When Iori explained the situation, Asumi muttered something in a small voice.
She looked somewhat happy and sad at the same time, making him curious, but he decided not to touch it.
Perhaps this was one of the reasons why Asumi, knowing how hard it was, was living alone while working as a student and a streamer.
When Iori reached this thought, he began to think that maybe he could help her a little bit more.
“Well, putting me aside, what are you going to do tomorrow?”
“What kind of question is that?”
Iori asked abstractly, and Asumi tilted her head slightly.
“If it’s all right for you, Minase, you can come over for dinner tomorrow and onward.”
“I have already received your help to this point, but I don’t intend to be indebted to you any further than I have already been. Besides, you have your own business to attend to, don’t you, Tokisaka-san?”
As Iori explained in a straightforward manner, Asumi, who had been looking at him softly, let out that cold tone of voice and looked into his eyes again, as if she was going to shun him.
He didn’t have a close relationship with her, and it was understandable that she was wary.
“I’m worried that someone I know does not have a proper diet. If you don’t want to come over here, I can pack them up in Tupper and bring them to you.”
“I’m more worried that it will affect your work, “Sensei”.”
Formally, it was a refusal based solely on consideration for Iori.
In fact, she was also a fan of Iori’s, and she probably had her true feelings mixed in.
But even Iori is a fan of Asumi――Hyouka, and he couldn’t help but be concerned about her diet.
“I told you, didn’t I? You have to get your meals properly. Anyway, I’m cooking regardless of my job, so I don’t have a problem with that.”
“…… I understand. I will be in your care only once every three days. I will not do more than that.”
“Okay, let’s go with that.”
It was Asumi who relented.
She was not sure if Iori was genuinely concerned about her, but Asumi was convinced as she made a compromise.
For Iori, it would be a bad aftertaste if a classmate who even streamed with him collapsed. He was well aware that the creative profession was prone to physical breakdowns, and he had many acquaintances who had actually broken down.
Leaving her alone was something he was hesitant to do.
“Then, can I ask you one more thing?”
“What’s that?”
Asumi, holding up her index finger and saying so while taking a look around.
“Then, as a thank you…… no, let me be clear about this. This room is so dirty that I can’t stand to look at it, so could you please clean it up? I don’t want to have meals in such a room.”
“You’re right. But it’s a lot of work with this much to clean up, so I’ll call a cleaning service to clean it up.”
“No, that’s not necessary. I will call my manager to punish that person for the leakage of information, so we have enough hands.”
In return for the dinner, or rather, for not allowing the mess in his room, she said she would tidy up his room.
She also said she would mobilize her manager to help.
Perhaps it’s a good thing since he had to meet with the manager to discuss the matter of being exposed.
“No mercy, eh. Then, was the leak confirmed to be Mane-san’s fault?”
“Senbongi-san said she would send the samples.”
“Oh, so that’s it. So, there’s nothing to be concerned about.”
“I also want to apologize to you, but…… well, how should I put it, dinner was so delicious that I would like to try other dishes. So I thought I could at least help.”
“I see. So that’s it.”
Apparently, there was another meaning to Asumi’s offer besides thanking him for the food or because she couldn’t stand the sight of this mess.
Mentioning that she would like to try it again, Asumi told her the truth of the matter with slight embarrassment, and Iori almost had a slight smirk on her face when he heard her saying it.
“I was wondering…”
“Wha, what is it, is there something?”
“I was wondering if you really are that Minase. You were so curt until just this morning.”
“I’m sorry for being so unfriendly.”
He still couldn’t help but feel that the girl he had known until this morning and the Asumi he knew now were completely different people.
When he made fun of her a little, Asumi responded with a sulky tone, and he couldn’t remember anything like this ever happening before.
Neither as a neighbor nor as a classmate.
Iori was surprised and puzzled, wondering if she was really this kind of girl.
“Besides, her personality when she was streaming seemed so similar, yet so different.”
“Of course, because “I and she are different people”. I mean, let’s not talk about this anymore, shall we?”
He was uncomfortable with Asumi’s strangely clear denial. But it was normal for the streamer to make up a character, so Iori thought it was just like that and agreed.
He was afraid of offending her, because her voice sounded slightly cold again. Not wanting to provoke her, Iori told her, “I’ll be waiting for you again in the evening of two days from now,” and ended the conversation.
He asked her to refrain from cleaning up after dinner and went to see her off at the door.
“Thank you very much for today.”
Asumi bowed and then opened the front door after saying a few words of thanks. The case of being exposed would finally be settled for today.
Yep, see you, Iori responded, slightly lifting the edge of his mouth as he saw Asumi off and loosens up.
“Ah…….”
As she was about to walk out the front door, Asumi turned around.
“What’s wrong? Did you forget something?”
“No, I’ll see you tomorrow at school. That’s all.”
Asumi looked up at Iori standing in the doorway and left behind a cute little wave of her hand before leaving.
For Iori, who had been caught off guard, it had an immense impact.
Iori rounded his eyes in surprise at the behavior of Asumi, who had been so unfriendly to him.
In addition, he was ashamed of himself for being so simple that he had involuntarily thought she was cute.
So, as if to cover it up, Iori complained to her saying, “If you could have shown such behavior, you should have been a little nicer to me,” even though he understood her situation.
Then, on that night.
Without worrying about Iori after she left……..
[Uka-chan, did something good happen to you?] [You’re so excited.] [It can’t be, a man?] [What happened?] [Huh? isn’t the person with whom you are interacting Kankitsu-mama.] [I’m curious.] [Tell us~]
“Do I look like that? Actually, we had a nice dinner…….”
There was one subscriber who seemed to be having a little more fun than usual.
